Unfortunately there is not a lot of information on the history of motorcycle chariot races. So below is a brief history of this wild looking style of motorcycle races.
Next what inspired racing of this unique style of motorcycle (??) was the 1925 movie “Ben Hur.” And it sounds like the first motorcycle chariots and races were in Australia. Then the US and Europe quickly followed.
So what happened to motorcycle chariot racing? A big part of it was the Great Depression. People were struggling to just get by. And few had the ability to for the chariot plus two motorcycles that were going to get damaged quickly.
Then WWII was probably the final blow to the races. And this was due to the rationing of metals and other materials used. Just a side note, the rationing during WWII ended a lot of motorcycle companies. This was because the only companies that had enough metal were primarily won the government contracts during WWII.
Finally, we aren’t sure why motorcycle chariot racing hasn’t made a comeback. Please feel free to share this blog article on your site or a social media page and let us know what you think of this blog article.
